Sermon for Sunday 23rd Feb. 2014

Topic: Your season of Flourishing and Enlargement

Key Scripture Genesis 26:12-22

22 Then he moved away from there and dug another well. They did not quarrel over it, so Isaac named it Rehoboth, saying, "For now the Lord has made room for us, and we will prosper in the land."

“To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven” – Ecclesiastes 3:1

We serve a God of season. We see it in creation. God created the four seasons that are based upon the rotation of the Earth as it orbits the Sun.

The seasons change as the earth moves, but the sun in our planetary system remains constant, and everything revolves around it.

1. Stepping into a new season brings NEW CHANGES

Change is inevitable. It’s going to happen. We look outside at the world around us and notice things are different today than they were 10 years ago, last year or even yesterday. But remember we serve a God of seasons.

Even in His creation, He created the seasons. And each season is different than the others. Some are meant for things to grow, and others for things to die off. Hello, anybody. In some seasons the days are longer, in others the night.

Some times it seems your days, your mountaintop experiences with God last a long time, but then there are those seasons when the nighttime seems as if it will never end. In those long nights when the tears seem like they will never stop flowing, but it might have taken a little longer in some seasons than others, but the morning did come, and the tears ceased and joy returned to your spirit.

But God gives us revelations and truths to propel us into new and different seasons. Why? Because we are creatures of habit and if He didn’t change things we would become complacent in one place.

2. Stepping into a new season brings NEW CHALLENGES

There is no doubt that when Isaac called to stay Gerar, he was faced not only with many changes in his life, but many challenges.

3. Stepping into a new season births NEW CHAMPIONS

Isaac was transformed from poverty and lack  into a prosperous man. I believe those who knew Isaac three years before were amazed to see the new champion that he had become.

4. It is your Season to flourish

A. Psalm 92:12-15: “The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; to show that the Lord is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.”

1. Flourish (Hebrew) = to flower, blossom, bloom, break through, spread out
2. Enter into a state of prosperity
3. Increase in wealth, favor and honor
4. Grow vigorously and exuberantly, enlarge and expand
5. Become extremely successful

B. Proverbs 14:11: “The house of the wicked shall be overthrown; but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.”

C. Psalm 52:8: “I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.”

1. Green (Hebrew) = flourishing

D. Psalm 112:3: “Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness
endure to for ever.”

E. Jeremiah 17:7-8: “Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be
careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.”

1. Leaf shall be green—prospering, thriving, flourishing

2. NLT: “...Their leaves stay green [and flourishing], and they never stop
producing fruit.”

3. MSG: “...They’re like trees replanted in Eden, putting down roots near the
rivers—never a worry through the hottest of summers, never dropping a leaf, serene and calm through droughts, bearing fresh fruit every season.”

F. Psalm 36:7-9 (AMP): “How precious is Your steadfast love, O God! The children of men take refuge and put their trust under the shadow of Your wings. They relish and feast on the abundance of Your house; and You cause them to drink of the stream of Your pleasures. For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light do we see light.”

G. Song of Solomon 2:4: “He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner me was love.”

Proverbs 11:28: “He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch

5: Conclusion

Look at somebody and tell them, “God didn’t save me to be a chump, but he saved me to be a champion.”

God has transformed us by His power. And God is calling His champions to step into a new season.

We are stepping into a season of power and prosperity

We are stepping into a season where all the peoples of the earth shall see that we are called by the name of the Lord

We are stepping into a season where the Lord is going to open up His good treasure to you and bless you, where we’re gong to lend and not borrow, where we will be the head and not the tail, where we will be above and not beneath

We are stepping into a season where God is about to tear back the veil off of the heavenlies to release some things

Those who were once held under are now going to be coming over

Those who were once forgotten are now going to be remembered

Those who were depressed will once again begin to rejoice

Those who were once rejected are now accepted

Those who are down trodden will have their heads lifted

Those who grieve will have their joy made manifest

Those who were once poor will say I am rich

Those who are afflicted will once again walk in wholeness

We are stepping in to a new season where those things that have been taken from you will be restored 100 fold.

I believe I’m talking to some people this morning who have been through some seasons

Some of you had to learn how to praise God all by yourself

You had to praise God through a lot of tears

Some of you had to learn how to lay hands on your own head

Some of you had to hold up your hands while you were praying for somebody else, hoping somebody was praying for you.

ANNUAL CHURCH UNITS/ARMS/COMMITTEE REPORT

AN ADDRESS PRESENTED BY THE ARCHDEACON VENERABLE JOHN C. ADUBASIM AT THE VESTRY MEETING OF ST. PAUL’S CATHEDRAL DIOBU, PORT HARCOURT ON 23rd FEBRUARY 2014.

The Cathedral Clergy,

Knights and Ladies,

Beloved People of God,
God has been indeed faithful in all His dealings with us. We express our heart gratitude to God for His goodness and mercies towards us. In 2013 He enabled us to achieve and realize most of our dreams. We are indebted to our Dean, Archbishop and Bishop and Mama Dean, Most Rev. and Mrs. Ignatius C. O Kattey (JP) for their continuous care, love and prayers. We pray that God will continue to bless you in Jesus, amen.

I am grateful to God for the team of clergy and wives that worked with us within the year under review. We really appreciate your commitment and support. May God bless you all; my sincere appreciation to the outgoing Cathedral Standing Committee members for your much cherished commitment and unalloyed support to us and the furtherance of God’s Kingdom. We do appreciate the Cathedralist in sustaining the work of God in His Church. 1n 2013 you laboured tirelessly to the propagation and expansion of God’s work. We received donations of cash and kind to this effect. We pray that the good Lord will continue to bless every member of this Church in Jesus name, amen.

THEME OF THE YEAR: Our theme for the year "REHOBOTH"

A well in Gerar dug by Isaac (Gen. 26:22), supposed to be in Wady er-Ruheibeh, about 20 miles south of Beersheba. Rehoboth means ‘a place of enlargement and flourishing’. Isaac's servants had dug two wells before Rehoboth and the herdsmen of Gerar quarrelled with Isaac's herdsmen. So when they dug the third well and there were no quarrels Isaac named it Rehoboth saying "Now the Lord has given us room and we will flourish in the land"

Anywhere in the Bible you see a well, there is something significant attached to it. Think about John 4 with Jesus and the Samaritan woman. Think about Isaiah 12 which speaks about the Wells of Salvation. And then, the story of Isaac.

Let’s take a look at few points.

1. Isaac received a hundred fold returns for his planted seeds, and the blessing continued to grow. There is no question that the principles of sowing and reaping are spiritual laws that are active in the dimensions of the world we live in.

2. This blessing and prosperity stirred up trouble with the enemy who messed with him by filling in the wells that Abraham’s servants dug. You would think that when God blesses a person or a church that everyone around would be absolutely excited and happy for the person. Not True! Envy, jealousy, and such like are revealed as character flaws of others.

3. Gen 26:17-18 "So Isaac moved away to the Gerar Valley, where he set up their tents and settled down. 18 He reopened the wells his father had dug, which the Philistines had filled in after Abraham's death. Isaac also restored the names Abraham had named the wells."
There is a generational blessing, inheritance and legacy which The Lord wants to give to us in this year. This is true of the family blessing as well as the spiritual inheritance.

4. Gen 26:19-20 "Isaac's servants also dug in the Gerar Valley and discovered a well of fresh water."

It is interesting that they re-dug the wells of their ancestors and as they were doing so, they were also able to dig fresh wells. God wants to help us discover the new wells, the fresh water.

5. "Isaac's servants also dug in the Gerar Valley and discovered a well of fresh water. 20 But then the shepherds from Gerar came and claimed the spring. "This is our water," they said, and they argued over it with Isaac's herdsmen. So Isaac named the well Esek (which means "argument"). 21 Isaac's men then dug another well, but again there was a dispute over it. So Isaac named it Sitnah (which means "hostility)."
I hate to bring this up but it is historically proven that you cannot have a move of God without opposition. It is going to happen when you step out. But, that is okay. Just know it is part of the price you pay for going forward in these things. Gerar being translated means pilgrimage, but it also means dispute or combat. Yes, sometimes when you are digging for a new well there can be such a huge contention that you never intended to happen, but it can happen and must be considered as part of the price you must pay to be a well digger.

How you react to the pilgrimage or dispute will either make you or break you. On one hand you may feel justified to enter into the dispute. On the other side you may simply write your "opponents" off and consider yourselves more spiritual or holy than them. Spiritual pride will destroy a move of God just as quickly as will a "Holy War."

Please note here that Isaac did not stay at the wells of argument and hatred, he moved on until he came to Rehoboth a place of enlargement and fruitfulness.

Points to consider:
1. In Old Testament times, to fill or cover wells was a declaration of war.

2. The pure water that once flowed was tainted and no longer available once the well was covered.
3. Isaac was in a place where he had to decide how far he was willing to go.
4. Many today are in that same place. The enemy has come and covered their source of water/life, and they have not drank from the wells for quite some time. This is an opportunity for:

a. God to find out what we are made of.
b. For us to find out what we are made of.
c. Each place Isaac found himself presented new opportunities/challenges.

VISION:

To spiritually, mentally and financially empower the people for effective church growth: This vision entails that within the year each member will be challenged to make effort to pray, evangelize and bring new members to the church. This will radically increase our membership.

For us to achieve our vision for the year, we need a lot of sacrifice, commitment, prayers and partnership and financial support.

EVANGELISM/MISSIONS

In 2013 we organized a lot of laudable programmes for the propagation of the gospel and building up of the congregation. Our mission Churches are doing well by the grace of God. The Mgbuakara was christen Alpha and Omega Anglican Church, and the Youth Church Our Saviours Anglican Church Oromeneke D/line by His Grace Most Rev Ignatius C.O. Kattey (JP) They are growing numerically and spiritually. Our mission field in Gabon and the Missionary Rev. Serge Nketchoua is doing well by the grace of God. However, by the new location we have a new missionary to Gabon assigned to us for sponsorship. He is the Rev. Canon R. Foko. The Church of Pentecost Ogbunabali is doing well by the grace of God. The Rev Paul Akunne is the new Priest in Charge.

The plan to open a church at Azumini Ezimgbu is still on. We had a big challenge on the land we leased for the church planting. We do hope that the problem will be resolved soon.

By the grace of God, this year we will organize prayer watch throughout the Lenten period and prayer conference. Programmes will be organized to reach out to the Communities around us. I appeal to every member of the Cathedral Church to be actively involved in Mission and Evangelism

WALFARE
The Anglican Communion is fundamentally a caring church. When a neighbour is ill, we should care for him. When she is hungry, we should feed her. We should share food and other materials with those in need. The church within this period will enhance on her caring attitude towards her members and the less privileged, demand a caring attitude from every member of the church, support and care for those who face persecution as a result of being converted to Christianity. We will run a food bank where members who are hungry can come and get food to eat and cloths to wear.

In 2013, we organised blessing of marriage for members who are married but have not blessed their marriage. The Church took care of the programme and reception. We thank God for the success of the marriage blessings.

GROWTH
We thank God for the level of growth we have recorded so far, however, this year, we will double our effort to ensure that the empty pews in the Church are filled up. To this effect we will intensify our house fellowship participation; for I strongly believe that when the house church grows, the main church will grow as well.

We also encourage members to go through the foundation bible study and the school of ministry to deepen their spirituality and faith in God. For our School of Ministry, nineteen (19) participants graduated last year. The church will continue to use every reasonable means to enhance growth both spiritually, numerically, financially and otherwise

DISCIPLINE
The Anglican Church has a standard, which is biblically-based; therefore we cannot tolerate any act of indiscipline against the principles of the church and the Bible. To this effect, every member of our church should abide by the guiding principles and regulations of our Communion.

PROJECTS:
We want to thank the Cathedralist and the project committee for all your effort to see to the progress of our numerous projects in the Church. The Archdeacon’s House has been completed by the donor. The Women hall Project is near completion, the staff quarters is near completion, the Administrative block, the Pews etc. Details about our project are contained in the project committee report. We thank God for individuals and families who are contributing to these projects. God bless you more and more in Jesus name.

FINANCE

The Cathedral Standing Committee has approved the sum of One hundred and four two million, four hundred and sixty-seven thousand, one hundred and ninety naira (N142,467,190.00) only as the budget for the year. Details of this will be presented by the Treasurer. We are trusting God for more blessings this year to enable us meet our financial obligations. However, we stress that we will ‘tighten our belt’ as far as spending is concerned. This is to enable us go far in our projects. We encourage every Unit/Group in the Church should be careful of their spending this year as the Church will not tolerate any frivolous spending.

UNITS/GROUPS

We encourage and appeal to various units/groups in the church to continue to mobilise their members to participate actively in our church activities. We have observed that some people participate in their group activities without getting involved in Church programmes.

Every unit/group should endeavour to abide by the guidelines or principles of the church. Each Unit/Group leader should send in their periodic report to the Archdeacon’s office.

HARVEST/SPECIAL DONATION

We sincerely appreciate the 2013 7am and 10 am Harvest Committees for their effort to see to the success of our Harvest last year. We indeed exceeded our expectations. We appreciate members of the Cathedral who donated to the Church in 2013. We pray that God will continue to bless you in Jesus name. Amen. We are trusting God for a bumper harvest this year

CONCLUSION

Once again I thank you all for your support. I must say that we had a conducive environment to thrive in our ministry in 2013. On behalf of the Cathedral Clergy I Thank you for all the kind gestures we have received from you both in Cash and kind. Our prayer is that God will continue to bless you abundantly in Jesus name, amen.

REPORT ON THE CATHEDRAL MCA ACTIVITIES FOR THE

YEAR ENDED 2013 AND OUR VISION FOR 2014

Calvary greetings in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

The year 2013 was an eventful one in the life of the entire men of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul’s, Diobu. Indeed, we will beat our chest to say that there was a lot of improvement in the activities of men in the church both at the group level and at the MCA in general.

This report will better be understood under the following headings;

FATHERS’ WEEK CELEBRATION

The Fathers’ week celebration for the year 2013 was very successful, especially in terms of participation of men of the church. Among the activities were the visit to the elderly, football match between the 7am and 10am of the church and the climax on Sunday was the honouring of 16 members with an award of excellence for their contribution in the church and the activities of men generally. We pray that the celebration this year will be better.

EVANGELISM / VISITATION:

As our resolve to bring men back to the church, the cathedral MCA within the year under review encouraged the different groups to take the issue of visitation and evangelism more seriously. It will be worthy to mention here that St. Daniel’s group used their sporting activities every Saturday morning to win souls to the church and the group at large.

Other groups too were encouraged to visit their sick and elderly members from time to time, sometimes with a token purse. We shall not forget to mention that as part of our evangelism drive, one of our own whom we trained in the Trinity College, Umuahia was ordained as a priest in 2013 and the MCA robed him as a sign of encouragement to others. Also 16 men of our church were inducted into the MCA by the Lord Bishop, Archbishop of the Province of Niger Delta and the Dean of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion. We pray that this year, the number will be doubled.

DIOCESAN / PROVINCIAL MCA

It will interest us to know that we have continued to play prominent roles at both the DMCA and PMCA. As we speak now, we are not owing our quota at any of these bodies. Most importantly was our successful hosting of the 2013 DMCA delegate conference with the theme. "In blessing, I will bless you". The PMCA conference held at the Missionary Diocese of Uyo earlier in the year did not go unnoticed by the cathedral MCA officials. We once again use this medium to thank the CSC and other members of the cathedral church for their support towards the success of the conference. Above all, we thank our Lord Jesus Christ for his Grace and provision towards us.

PROJECTS:

The Cathedral MCA is still pursuing her goal of completing the parsonage building at the Alpha and Omega Church, Mgbuakara. In 2013, we were only able to roof and complete the ceiling work in the building. Efforts are being made to complete the project before the end of the first quarter of the year.

GROUP ACTIVITIES

The four men groups of the cathedral MCA are doing very well by the Grace of God. Please permit us to analyze some of the activities and achievements of some of these groups.

St. Daniel’s Group:
This group is basically men worshippers in the 7am session. They hold their meetings on the first Sunday of every month. For convenience sake, their activities are divided into various sub-committees such as, sports, welfare, prayer/visitation and empowerment. Some of their achievements in 2013 includes;
Visitation of sick and elderly members and also visit to the motherless and elderly homes.
Donation of 2 pews to the church
Donation of food/clothing materials to the church food / material bank.
Interaction / donation of items to the widows, and exercise books and snack items to the children department of the church etc.
St. Joseph Group:
This is also a 7am based men group and they hold their meetings also on every first Sunday of the month. Some of their achievements includes;
Donation of 7 pews to the church
Supporting members financially when the need arises.
The group observed the St. Joseph day on the 19th of March, 2013
Making of new uniform for themselves to attract members.
St. Christopher Group:
This group is predominantly men worshippers in the 10am session, and their meetings are held once every month especially on Saturdays. As a way of encouraging larger participation of members, they move their meetings in the houses of individual members. Some of their achievements includes:
Donation of 3 pews to the church
Visit to some sick / elderly members of the group
Active participation of burial of deceased members and members relatives etc.
These groups are making immense contribution both financially and materially towards the strong and growth of the Cathedral MCA and we encourage them to do more.

DEATHS:

We lost few members in 2013, whom have since been buried. Among these members are – Elder Magnus Nnah and Chief Robert Chikere and we participated actively in their burials.

Our prayer is that Almighty God should comfort their families.

OUR VISION FOR 2014

Our theme for the year 2014 "Believe God and be established properly". 2 Chronicle 20: 20.

Our resolve this year is that believing God will do great exploits in our lives this year, we shall be aggressive in reaching out to members, be more involved in mission and evangelism, organize retreats for men and prayer meetings in order to increase the number of men serving God in the cathedral. We shall also encourage especially at the group levels to visit at least four members from each group monthly.

On the MCA retreat centre project, arrangement will be intensified to start the foundation work before this year’s fathering week celebration.

FINANCE:

We cannot conclude this report without a word on the financial strength of the CMCA. Indeed, shortage of funds is our greatest shortcoming. We therefore use this medium to appeal to members who made financial / material commitment during our last fathering Sunday to redeem same. However, our financial strength to date stands at =N=3,347, 410.88.

CONCLUSION:

As earlier mentioned, our main focus this year is the MCA retreat centre project. Therefore, we call on all and sundry, the clergy and the entire congregation of St. Paul’s Cathedral to support us in this project.

We must not fail to thank the Venerable John C. Adubasim and his team of clergy and their wives for their love and support. The cathedral standing committee, the executive committee of MCA, Group leaders, various committees and the entire congregation of St. Paul’s for their commitment, support and love all through 2013. Our prayer is that the Lord will continue to bless and prosper you and your families as He takes us to our Rehoboth in 2014. Amen.

Please see below our program of activities for 2014.

ANNUAL WOMEN REPORT FROM ST. PAUL’S CATHEDRAL DIOBU

To the glory of God I present a report of the women activities for the year. It is important to note that all the planned programs of the year 2012 were held by the grace of God. And the success of the year 2013 is as a result of combined effort.

A REVIEW OF WOMEN ACTIVITES

SIX POINT VISION FOR 2013

Theme for the year: Humility –The humble woman (breading love through humility)
Outreaches: To reach out to more people this year with the word and the love of God. To have 2 evangelical outreaches and a welfare outreach
Welfare: To visit and attend promptly to the welfare needs of members.
Spirituality: To engage in lots of activities that will boost our spiritual well being.
Project: To Complete our multipurpose women hall project
To Improve attendance to women Programs/meetings and other church activities

REDEDICATION:

This year began with a Diocesan rededication in January and the cathedral women had women retreat which was wrapped up with a thanksgiving service in February

MOTHERING SUNDAY:

Theme: The Resourceful Mother Text: Exodus 2:3

This year’s mothering Sunday was a really interesting one.

We had talk, bible study, interactive section with the youth arms, prayer meeting, courtesy and community visitations, sports competition etc. It was a beautiful week of activities and the turn up was really encouraging.

This year’s Mothering Sunday had some very unique features. The interactive section with the youth arm was a major high light recording about 300 persons. We invited ex- militants, a man who was severely sexually abused as a child and prostitutes to come share their experiences with the youths.

Another major feature was the variety day. We had the sports competition and food fare. The different women groups and clergy wives had a match parade. Race competition for women with hips measuring 50cm and above as well as races for women 50years and above was great fun to witness.

The groups also presented different meals and dishes for the food fare. Guests were invited to appreciate the different meals and dishes displayed. Lots of traditional delicacies were showcased and cultures displayed.

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER/ANNOUNCIATION OF BLESSED VIRGIN MARY.

These are national women annual event. Both were observed by the women though the attendance to the world day of prayer was very poor and not encouraging. The annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary was well attended with the clergy in a communion service. We pray for more grace for the future.

EASTER PROCESSION

This year’s Easter morning procession was an interesting one as usual. We used the opportunity to do a kind of street to street evangelism. The women had a good time preaching and singing to the glory of God. I thank all who participated in that procession.

EVANGELISM

By the special grace of God, evangelism has become a major part of the women’s ministry in St. Paul’s Cathedral. In line with our vision for the year, we have mapped out series of evangelical outreaches for the year. Apart from the one we had during the Easter morning procession which covered the Oroworoko axis, the women also embarked on a day outreaches each to Oromenezimgbu in June, and Ogbunabali in July. It was an evening of bliss. We preached at major areas like the hall and market. We still believe God for a major weekend outreach later this year.

EXECUTIVE RETREAT

We had a day retreat for all women, units and women group executives. With the theme ‘A helping hand’ exodus 17:12. It featured talks, workshop, prayers, etc.

WOMEN MEETINGS

We thank God for his grace thus far. We hold our monthly meetings. Mothers union meets on 1st Monday for general meeting and 2nd Monday for visitation of members who put to bed, are sick, bereaved or family of dead member to celebrate or condole with them. The members are trying in terms of attendance but there is room for more improvement and we believe God that His grace will perfect us in Jesus Name. The women’s guild meets every 3rd Mondays of the month for general meeting. Each of the already established and functioning groups and unit hold their meetings at different days and time.

GROUPS AND UNITS

Presently, the already existing eleven (11) groups St. Ann, Bridget, Catherine, Dorcas, Elizabeth, Florence, Mary, Sarah, Esther, Ruth, Phoebe are functional. The various women groups and units have done well. All the groups are functional at both at the Mothers Union and Women’s Guild. However it is sad to note that some groups are lagging behind. We believe by Gods grace this year will yield greater results in Jesus name, Amen. Subsequently, a new group was formed as the year was wrapping up. St. Hannah’s group is the 12th group. Comprising of young and energetic women whose zeal will amaze the rest of us. We pray they grow up and shine for Jesus.

May I use this medium to appeal to all women who have not joined the women’s guild and Mothers’ Union to do so, and be part of what God us using the women to do in our time.

PRAYER AND SPIRITUALITY UNIT

The prayer and spirituality unit is one of the most vibrant and active units in the church. They hold regular meetings and retreats both at cathedral and Diocese. I want to specially commend them for their dedication to the women’s spirituality programs, for preparing the bible study of our conference and for their prayers. May your strength be renewed like that of the eagle. More grease to your elbows.

FINANCE UNIT

The finance unit supervises the finance of both the MU and WG. So far they have drawn up budget for 2013 and judiciously supervised the execution, acting as watch dogs on the expenditure of the group and ensuring compliance. They have also assisted in recovering pledges made to the women as well as collection of levies and dues. They also participated in the Diocesan one day training for the Finance unit, after which they trained the finance unit of the groups and churches under the cathedral. We thank our Mama Diocese Mrs. B.G.Kattey JP for a timely initiative and the diocesan Finance and Central Planning Unit for a proper execution.

TRAINING UNIT.

This unit is posed with the responsibility of organizing lectures, skills acquisitions and training in various area of life. Though the women have lectures and trainings during their monthly meetings. The training unit has done well in recent times. We commend their efforts during our conference and encourage them to do more

ACTION AND OUTREACH UNIT

Though this unit meets once in a while they have created quite an impression in the women’s ministry, especially during the outreaches and their laudable effort during the mothering Sunday. They took the lead during our community invitation which was part of the mothering Sunday and conference activities. And are playing a major part in the logistics for our evangelism and outreaches.

MARKETING UNIT.

The marketing unit has not done badly at all. They participated fully during the mothering Sunday week of activities and conference, putting up a stand for the sales of various items. We thank them for their business acumen. We encourage them to continue in their good work and devise more and nice avenues to boost the finance of the unit and the women at large.

WELFARE

The welfare of the members of the Mothers’ Union is very important to us. We schedule monthly visits to members from time to time and as the need arises to share fellowship with them, pray for them and give our little token. We encourage ourselves to be part of this welfare visitation.

CHARITY STORE AND FOOD BANK

The women had planed that upon completion of our multipurpose hall project that we would open a charity shore for welfare relieve materials. But the church opened a food bank and charity store. The women have been in full support of this project and proposed to send food and other relieve materials. This we have already started sending food worth thirty thousand naira quarterly to the food bank. Individual groups in the Women’s Guild have also been sending food to the food bank

DAUGHTERS OF HOPE

To the glory of God, the following wedded: Ihuoma Peters and Ada Okwu. Many got new Jobs and other started and completed their school.

We humbly appeal that daughters of hope should be well publicize and encourage by the Church.

WIDOWS’ FELLOWSHIP

The widows’ fellowship is doing very well. Though usually made up of the older widows. They hold their regular prayer meetings and visitations. They also had their cathedral conference.

GIRLS’ GUILD

This arm is doing well. Holding their meetings regularly. Most of the girls are in boarding school this makes them have their conferences and major programs during the school vacations.

CHILDREN MINISTRY

The children ministry is growing by the day. With a clergy wife to supervise the activities and make inputs were necessary. They participated in the children ministry activities.

WOMEN PROJECT

By the special grace of God our women multipurpose two storey building complex is gradually coming to completion. We are grateful to the family of Dame Hannah Aguma for fulfilling their promise to roof the building and fit the doors and windows.

FINANCE REPORT
The financial annual report is not yet ready but is being put together for onward clarification/ approval by the Archdeacon.

CHALLENGES / PROBLEMS
The main root of all the problems and challenges of the church is to have a land. A gift of land will solve every existing problem/challenges pending around the church. The other notable ones can be solved with an administrative adjustment and re-orientation of the members on their role and expectation.

The church also needs the people of the land to acquit themselves with the worship and service of God in the church.

2013 ANNUAL FINANCIAL REPORT/ 2014 PROPOSED BUDGET
PREAMBLE: It is important to note that the 2013 financial report shows the following:
‘Allowances’ stand for all payments made to the Supervising priest, His wife, Sexton, Choirmaster, Organist, Band boy including other bonuses.
‘Rents’ stands for all payments made for the Supervising priest [vicarage], Sexton’s residence and for church premises.
‘Bills’ stand for payments made for Supervising priest [Vicarage], Sexton’s residence and for church residence.

We wish to state that the income of the church stated below has not been able to take care of all the necessary demands of the church with respect to the areas of the following:

i. Allowances

ii. Rents
iii. Bills
iv.Other recurrent expenses such General Maintenance, fuel, stationaries etc.

We wish to also note that there is a major area of concern to the church which has to do with the problem of ACQUIRING LAND [for the past 14 years]. This challenge has hampered the church growth and dream to make it become betterwith respect to growth/development and for the community of Ogbum-nu-abali to have its own altar of a church to the glory of God.The church sound system needs a total over- haul with respect to purchase of New speaker [2pairs], Microphones [2 pairs], New power amplifier and Keyboard [One], wires, a cage for the equipment, Shelves for the choir and a store. A set of computer system plus printer will also be required to reduce the demand on stationaries.

Presently, the church is faced with "2013 DEBT CHALLENGES". This is an highlight of some this debt challenges which we discovered on resumption of office:

i. RENTS: [a] Vicarage : N 180,000.00 [Balance]

[b] Sexton : N 72,000.00

[c] Church premises: N 150,000.00

ii. BILLS: [a] Vicarage : N 40,000.00

[b] Church : N 207,000.00

Note: Church needs to acquire its own meter.

iii.ALLOWANCES: [a] Sexton : N 20,000.00

[b] Choirmaster: N 10,000.00

[c] Organist : N 5,000.00

[d] Band boy : N 4,000.00

This debts stand at N 688,000.00 for 2013, which we hope to clear in 2014 with voluntary support as we intend to make appeal to people.Notwithstanding, below is the summary of the 2013 financial report and 2014 proposed budget, which we have declared as "A FAITH-FOUNDATIONAL BUDGET".

2013 ANNUAL REPORT

INTRODUCTION

We blessed the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ for His Mercy and loving kindness towards us as a family and as a church. It is so obvious and joyful to say that we enjoyed His divine providence, protection and provisions from the beginning of the year to the very end God proved his faithfulness in our lives and families and we enjoyed his partnership. We will continue to trust Him for more of his grace and blessings this coming year.

We thank our Father in the Lord, Ven. John C. Adubasim the Archdeacon whom God has used tremendously to sustain the church and her vision to making it a glorious church. Also we say a very big thank you to our supervising priest Rev. Nnaemeka Anyachor whose continuous counsel, encouragement, prayers and financial support was instrumental to the success we recorded, we are asking God to reward and bless them beyond measure.

MEANS OF GRACE

We observe a Communion Service first Sunday of the Month with Rev. Nnaemeka Anyachor as celebrant.

BAPTISM:

We join our Mother church in the Cathedral for water baptism and confirmation to confirm and baptize our members. This year many of our members were baptized both children and adult, also many adult were confirmed.

GROWTH:

The Cathedral Archdeacon Ven. John C. Adubasim has been a major tool, an instrument in the hand of God almighty for the growth of the church, a vehicle God used to drive us to where we are today, believing God will use him more in 2014. The church is growing and is doing well, we have built a strong fellowship structure and a good Christian relationship among the brethren which gave birth to a selfless service and has boost spiritual growth.

In spite of its growing nature, we are committed to growing the church to a greater height and to make it a glorious church.

CHURCH STATISTICS:

Brothers 46

Sisters 49

Children 15

Total 110

WELFARE:

The church is a caring church that give priority and concern to the welfare and happiness of its members and has done well in the past years and will continue to keep the unity of the brethren through love and fellowship.

VISION AND OBJECTIVE:

We anchor on God’s unfailing and unchanging grace, believing that God in his love, infinite mercy will grant us His Grace and strength to continue to serve Him in obedience and in good faith, believing that our limited diplomatic skill will be use to serve in humility, God and humanity with mandate to reaching out to the unreached, wining the lost at all cost and rescuing the perishing especially the youths of our age.

Our vision and objective is to raise disciples, good Christians whose lifestyles, character and spiritual maturity will be admirable by all who hold conservative beliefs. To raise kingdom minded youths with radical faith in Jesus and for the gospel, who in the nearest future will become leaders and frontiers of missions in Anglican communion. Youths that will live for Christ, youths that will say I am crucified with Jesus; I am bleeding to serve and dying to live. Also Army with no one fable person among them.

MAINFESTATION/ BLESSING

Brethren God is faithful, His love and faithfulness is unfailing, He has proven Himself in the lives of members of his church by providing Jobs for many of our (Members) youths who are graduates but without Job selling under scorching sun, God removed them from the sun and put them under AC with good Jobs, some gained admission into Higher Institution. Above all, three of our pregnant women delivered peacefully and some brothers found their life partner. We bless God for his blessings even as we ask for more in 2014.

PROJECT:

We rented a (3) bed room flat apartment for a period of five years at No 4 Okomoko Street where we are now and we secured the permission and approval of the Landlord to break the place and make it a hall for worship.

CHALLENGES:

We need a land to start putting structure before the expiration of the rent. Also the church need a site along Okomoko-Oluobsanjo Road and Wogu street to mount a sign post to show case the church and to create awareness for people to know there is an Anglican church within.

HARVEST

The Church had her second youth harvest on the 3rd of November with the theme: Unlimited God which featured Rev. Dr. Benneth Okafor as quest preacher. A REPORT OF THE ANGLICAN YOUTH FELLOWSHIP (NIG) ST. PAUL'S CATHEDRAL DIOBU PRESENTED AT THE 2014 VESTRY MEETING.

It is with great joy and happiness that i present this report of our stewardship to this great and august gathering.

Theme for the year: Redeeming the time (Eph. 5:16)

Activities: We engaged our members in activities that are meant to spiritually, mentally and socially enlighten them. Programs such as a special valentine program organized in February, a special Independence Day program organized in October and a youth and teenagers school of ministry organized in the month of August. We also organized seminars, talk shows and interactive sessions with our patrons and patronesses.

Our monthly program "AN EVENING WITH THE LORD" anchored by our chaplain has remained a great source of blessing to our members. We also celebrate the birth month of our members.

Diocesan Activities: The Cathedral youth fellowship attended and participated in almost all the diocesan youth programs in the year under review. We participated actively in this year's National youth week, Diocesan youth harvest, Diocesan night vigils, National and Diocesan Bible study conferences and general meetings.

Projects: The Cathedral Youth Fellowship is actively involved in all projects of the church but chief among them is the purchase and installation of decorative lights at the front of the cathedral building with the hope of extending it to other areas in the compound.

Welfare: The cathedral youth fellowship sees welfare as a major part of our ministry. We have a functional welfare package for our member who are rejoicing, sick or bereaved. Let me use this opportunity to thank our welfare department for a job well done in the year under review.

Finance: The major sources of income for the fellowship are through dues and free-will donations. The year 2013 recorded a drop in income as we depended on our subvention to sponsor our programs. As at 30/01/2014 the sum of N200,000 (Two hundred thousand naira only) was released to the youth fellowship. The said amount was used to sponsor 20 delegates to the Diocesan Bible study conference (Okoro-nu-Odo 2013) at N1,500 per delegate and 17 delegates to the National Bible Study Conference(Otukpo 2013) at N10,000 per delegate.

Vision for 2014: The theme for the year is ALPHA AND OMEGA (Rev.1:8). To engage in lots of activities that will boast the spiritual well-being of the Cathedral Youth. To improve attendance to cathedral youth programs and activities. To attend to the welfare needs of our members.

Challenges: The Cathedral youth fellowship as it is obtained in most youth organizations is faced with some challenges which we are praying God to help us resolve. Chief among these challenges is the nonchalant attitude of some of our youths towards church programs and activities. Also late coming to programs

Dear people of God, God being our help, we hope to continue to promote the spiritual and social lives of our members in line with the aim, mission and vision of the AYF also bearing in mind the vision of the church.

Conclusion: We owe great thanks to our Archdeacon Ven. John C. Adubasim and our chaplain Rev. Nnaemeka Anyacho for their support spiritually, morally and financially. We will not fail to appreciate all who have assisted us in one way or the other especially our patrons and patronesses. Finally, our thanks goes to all Cathedral AYF executive members and the general house for their support and prayers. God bless you all.

THE PROJECT COMMITTEE

ST. PAULS CATHEDRAL, DIOBU, PORT HARCOURT

PROGRESS REPORT: MARCH 2013 – FEBRUARY 2014
For every house is builded by some man, but He that built all things is God. . Hebrew 3; 4

A. The Cathedral Project Committee was reconstituted by the Cathedral Standing Committee in February 2013 with Sir Ndukwe Nwaukwa (Chairman), Arc. Kenneth Onuoha (Secretary), Sir Chike Okwu, Sir Ndamati Wonodi, Lady Fortune Nyekazi-Wami, Chief (Engr.) Eugene Chuku, Engr. Charles Ihekwoaba, Engr. Chiedozie Adum, Hon. (Engr.) Achinike Wonodi, Mr. Chikeru Okabie, Hon. Owene Wonodi ksc as members.

The Committee has been meeting regularly to appraise developmental needs of the Cathedral Church within the context of the vision of the Cathedralists and the Cathedral Standing Committee. Attendance at these meetings have been impressive, the contributions robust and members’ commitment unquestionable culminating in this humble report of stewardship spanning our reconstitution till date.

B. PEWS:

The decision to build modern pews befitting of the cathedral has proven to be a good one as the church auditorium is gradually wearing a new look. Till date, a total of 45 pews and 3 kneelers have been delivered into the auditorium. Funding for additional 20 pews has been released to the Committee and production has commenced.

While thanking the Donors, the Project Committee encourages consistent funding of this project to ensure that the Cathedral auditorium is in no distant time outlaid with the new pews in its entirety. We also recommend that a mechanism be put in place to ensure that donations for pews get to the Project Committee as soon as they are made to avoid undue delays in delivery.

C. ADMINISTRATIVE/ VESTRY BUILDING:

We are thankful to God to report that the Administrative/ Vestry Building has been roofed. It has also been linked to the main church building through a walkway. The plastering is about to commence even as we have a Donor who has undertaken to provide ceiling on the topmost floor and another to fix all the windows and doors.

The Project Committee commends the Cathedralists and encourages their conspicuous candour and bravery in undertaking this laudable project.

D. VICARAGE

This project was successfully commissioned and dedicated by the Archbishop during his Episcopal visit on 25th December 2013. We pray that God’s blessings shall never depart from the Donor’s family.

E. CHURCH BASEMENT (ROYAL CHAPEL):

Even though there are vestiges of work outstanding, we are happy to report that the Basement has been in use as the Teenagers’ church and venue for several activities. To the glory of God, the Basement was commissioned and named ROYAL CHAPEL by the Archbishop during his Episcopal visit on 25th December 2013.

Furthermore, the windows have been fortified by steel protectors.

F. WOMEN PROJECT:

Following the handover of this project to the Project Committee in early 2013, the sum of N4m was released to the Committee at the first instance. Then another N .4m was released and N .2m was received from Sir Bright Wami towards the ceiling, thereby bringing the total funds received to N 4.6m. The money was expended thus: Plastering N 2.688m; Electrical Piping – N .2m; Window Profile/ Glass - N .7m Ceiling Noggins and PVC – N 1.2405m. Work has however stopped due to lack of funds and indebtedness to contractors. The additional N 1m that was approved has been applied for and awaits release. We have however projected an estimate of N 7.633m for the following:

a. Completion of plastering - N 1, 604, 000.00

b. Completion of Window Profiles/ Glass - N 400, 000.00

c. Hand Rails (Internal & External) - N 800, 000.00

d. 23 no Doors - N 414, 000.00

e. Completion of Ceiling - N 130, 000.00

f. Tiling - N 2, 885, 000.00

g. Electrical Fittings - N 1, 400, 000.00

G. LANDSCAPING:

1. REMOVAL OF STRUCTURES: Following the approval of the CSC, the building housing some staff after the Women Project has been pulled down. This is a measure towards restoring the environment following degradation from residents and flooding. The resulting debris from the demolition has been used to fill the area. More in fill material is however required to ensure the water drains out.

2. INTERLOCKING: The access road from the main gate to the right up to the beginning of the church and the left access up to the beginning of the Women Project had been interlocked courtesy of Donors. There are still large areas not interlocked and we use this opportunity to appeal to Donors to rise to the occasion by undertaking some of these areas with a view to achieving a completion of the interlocking of the compound walkways and roads. In order to expedite this, the Project Committee has determined the need to clearly delineate the walkways and roads with kerb stones. In due course moulding of interlocking and kerb stones will commence, Courtesy of a Donor.

H. INSTALLATION OF AIR CONDITIONERS:

The installation of Air Conditioners in the Church auditorium has not been carried out due to lack of funds. The Project Committee recommends that the installation of the ACs so far donated should be prioritised. A timely action on this will forestall disillusionment on the part of the Donors and the congregation at large following the long time it is taking to install the ACs donated.

I. INSTALLATION OF TRANSFORMER:

Following the changing of the wooden poles to concrete poles within the church premises, the focus shifted to the installation of the transformer. We are glad to report that the Transformer has been installed by Engr. (Chief) Eugene Chuku and his family. It has been dedicated by the Archbishop and has since been put to use.

J. RESIDENTIAL BLOCK OF FLATS

This is a one storey, 4 – units of 2 Bedroom flats being donated to the church by a Cathedralist. Work commenced on the project in August 2013. Presently, it has been roofed and plastering is almost concluded. Our prayer is that God should continue to bless and strengthen the Donor and his family.

K. THE BELFRY

The Belfry has been dedicated by the Archbishop. At the dedication, the Archbishop pointed out the need to install an air conditioner and steel protectors. These will be done in due course.

L. ACQUISITION OF MOBILE SCAFFOLD:

The Project Committee had adduced the need for the church to acquire a mobile scaffold. We propose that this issue be revisited in due course as this will indeed be a prize acquisition by the church.

M. CONCLUSION:

We use this medium to express our appreciation for finding us worthy to serve. We pray God to grant us the grace to do more as the opportunity arises. We thank unreservedly all who have assisted us in one way or the other. Special thanks go to the CSC for the good working relationship they have maintained with us especially in the area of timely approvals. We appreciate also, the Archdeacon for his visionary leadership and the Cathedral Clergy – for their prayers and support.

We reiterate the need for prayers knowing that: "Many are the plans in a Man’s heart but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails" (Prov. 19: 12). We pray that our plans should continually be in consonance with His purpose.

Remain blessed.

ADULT SUNAY SCHOOL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED DECEMBER 2013.
INTRODUCTION

The Sunday school arm of the church is saddled with the responsibility of teaching the word of God every Sunday. Following the synod decision as well as Archbishop’s approval, Sunday school has become an integral part in Sunday worship.

ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR

Sunday school is held almost every Sunday in the year except for few Sundays where there were compelling diocesan programs. The council witnessed a harmonious relationship with the Archdeacon of the Cathedral and his team of clergymen.
Sunday school manual was adequately provided by the diocese and on time too.

The Cathedral Sunday School Council participated actively in all the diocesan programs. Indeed the cathedral council recorded the highest number of attendance in most events organized by the diocese. This is a positive improvement when compared with the previous year.

The year also witnessed drive for new teachers which yielded a positive result leading to increase in the number of teachers.

Within the year under review, quarterly retreat was organized to equip teachers with adequate bible knowledge as well as requisite teaching skills.

The council observed her expansion week where various activities geared towards edifying the teachers and students of Sunday school were organized.

The council also participated and partly hosted the diocesan Sunday school Conference.

DIOCESAN PROGRAM
The first diocesan program [workshop/vigil] in 2013 was hosted by Cathedral church. The annual diocesan conference for 2013 was well attended by the teachers. We recorded 27 participants which included teachers from Our Saviour’s Anglican Church. We also participated in the quiz competition that brought us to the second [2nd] position in the diocese.

EXPANSION WEEK:
This is a yearly activity in all churches, that of Cathedral was a huge success. It was a week-long activity full of varieties and well attended by our team of pastors, their wives and all the units in the church.

FINANCE:
We applied for and received One hundred and forty three thousand naira [N143, 000] for the expansion week. The sum of One hundred and nineteen thousand, nine hundred naira [N119, 900] was spent and the balance of Twenty three thousand, one hundred naira [N23, 100] was refunded to the church. In the course of the expansion week, we got offering [Tuesday & Wednesday] of Twelve thousand, seven hundred naira [N12, 700]. Also One hundred and twenty six thousand, one hundred and thirty naira [N126, 130] was realized during the Sunday thanksgiving; 60% of the Sunday’s thanksgiving was paid into the diocesan account while 40% was remitted into the unit’s purse.
We registered a maximum of 25 participants in the 2013 diocesan conference at the rate of One thousand five hundred naira [N1, 500] each. The sum of Thirty seven thousand, five hundred naira [N37, 500] was applied for which was approved. Note that 27 teachers attended the conference; therefore two teachers paid for themselves hence they will be refunded as have been approved by the CSC.

We also collected the sum of Fifty five thousand naira [N55, 000] to organize retreat. We spent the sum of Twenty one thousand naira [N21, 000] and refunded the balance of Thirty four thousand naira [N34, 000] to the church.

CHALLENGES
One of the challenges of the ministry is inadequate funding as the ministry does not collect separate Sunday school offerings for the purpose of teachers’ welfare as well as other expenses necessary in running the ministry.
Insufficient number of consistent and committed members.
Some members of the church do not really like attending Sunday school as some of them are either outside during Sunday school or they come to church late just to avoid attending Sunday school.
Some of the teachers have inadequate teaching skills as well as sound knowledge of the Bible, thereby making their classes uninteresting.
Some people are adamant to answer questions during Sunday school.
Some church members collect the manual without paying thereby resulting to shortage on the amount to be remitted as sales to diocese.
Time given to teach Sunday school lesson is too short.
Some Sunday school attendees do not come with their Bible; this affects the level of participation of the students during Sunday school.

GROWTH AND PROGRESS

Remarkably, on the average; few students read Bible during classes and give meaningful contributions. We donated 50 pieces of Bible during our expansion week thanksgiving to the church. The rate of students’ participation can be put at 83% for now which is far better than the previous years. The total attendance for the year 2013 is twelve thousand, six hundred and ninety nine [12,699] against that of the previous year which was eight thousand, eight hundred and sixty eight [8,868]. More teachers were recruited and trained; we have close to 28 active teachers on ground.

ACTION PLAN FOR 2014
Some of the newly recruited teachers will be assigned to assist other experienced teachers so as to understudy them and grow.
Trainings and retreats will be organized at least quarterly in order to train teachers and to keep them abreast with ever evolving teaching skills. Experienced resource persons from within and outside the Cathedral will facilitate such retreats and trainings.
These trainings and retreats will equip teachers with more knowledge which will aid in making their classes more interesting thereby increasing the zeal of members to attend Sunday school.
Teachers are to be assigned to permanent classes so as to build up teacher – student rapport.
The unit will intensify their attendance to diocesan programs especially as regards to diocesan Sunday school activities.

REQUEST
We request that when the administrative block is completed, that an office space be allocated to the unit for safe keeping of our manuals/ other related materials, teachers’ rest room and comfort while they wait to teach in the next service.

CONCLUSION

We thank the Venerable for his support and cooperation and for moving the time of the Sunday school forward. This has created greater participation. To our Chaplain, thanks a lot for your fatherly guidance. To the clergy; we say a big thank you for your assistance. To the Cathedralist, we thank you for your immense participation and contribution.

God bless you.

HOUSE FELLOWSHIP REPORT
PREAMBLE; We wish to express our gratitude to God for His grace upon our lives and for enabling us establish this veritable avenue for the meeting of God’s people. As the scripture says in Psalm 133:1 "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity". The home-cell fellowship presents to us a good opportunity to deepen our collective faith in God, engender true worship and foster a harmonious living with all our neighbours.

We also appreciate our in the Lord, the Ven John C. Adubasim for his foresight in initiating this programme. His unflinching support has greatly helped to sustain our collective interest and participation in the fellowship.

THE FELLOWSHIP IN 2012
The Home-Cell Fellowship commenced on the 10th march 2012 with about 45 designated centres and eleven(11) zones. The programme was embraced with so much enthusiasm as shown by their impressive turn-out. Mr Nelson Okoli’s Centre in D-Line, for instance, recorded an average of thirty-seven (37) committed members then. All the Centres in Rumukalagbor reported very high turn-out just as most Centres in Orogbum. Days of meeting were fixed for the 2nd and 4th Sundays of every month, preceded by a preparatory class at 5pm.

Our initial experience showed that while most of those called to serve have remained committed, a few others showed little or no interest. Some designated Centres could not stand due to the negative attitude of the hosts.

HOW WE FARED IN 2013
Due to some lapses or challenges witnessed in 2012, some adjustments were effected early in 2013 which has impacted positively in our activities. New teachers were raised and paired with the old ones. The following changes took place within the year under review.
For effective monitoring, what used to be Orogbum Zone was split into two(2) with Mrs. Helen Oguzo as co-ordinator for Orogbum 1 (5 centres) while Orogbum ll with 3 centres has Evang Ephraim Maduka as the co-ordinator. Two(2) centres in Orogbum ll that were found dormant for some months due to sudden departure of those posted there were quickly resuscitated.
What used to be Special Zone was split into two(2) namely (a) Mgbuoba/Rumuola/Agip Zone with four(4) centres has Bro Obinna Onyemuwa as the co-ordinator; (b) Rumuokoro/Rumuodara zone with 3 Centres has Bro Josiah Iheanacho as the co-ordinator. Mrs. Vivian Ole’s Centre was taken to the Oromineke/D-Line Zone while Dr Adjugah’s Centre, for now, is the only special centre.
Two (2) co-ordinators were replaced for ineffectiveness. Lady Margaret Wokocha from Rumukalagbor Zone replaced Sir Ken Chinda while Bro Christian Ojukwu replaced Sir Peter Orji at the Oroworukwo zone.
The days of meeting was changed from 2nd and 4th Sundays in a month to the 1st and 3rd Sundays.

ACHIEVEMENTS/TESTIMONIES
By the special grace of God, the Home-Cell Fellowship has taken a foothold in most of the target areas. We have not relented in our meetings, though, punctuality and regularity remains a bit of a challenge. However, attendance to preparatory class and house meetings have relatively stabilized with testimonies of God’s visible hands in the lives of these few faithful ones.

Testimonies abound relating to safe child delivery, journey mercies, divine healings, deliverance from accidents, promotion in work places, successful wedding ceremonies etc.

On the average, many centres still record high attendance as in the following;
Rev. Chamberlain Oguzo’s Centre (Orogbum 1)---------------22 persons
Dame Hannah Aguma’s Centre (Orogbum 1)-----------------10 "
Mr. Nelson Okoli’s Centre (Oromineke/D-Line)---------------19 "
Engr. Eugene Chuku’s Centre (Rumukalagbor)----------------22 "

On the zonal level, Rumukalagbor has been quite outstanding in all ramifications while our brother, Christian Ojukwu is doing a great job in Oroworukwo zone. A few zones have wholeheartedly embraced the newly introduced evangelism/visitation and testified huge successes. We held very fruitful quarterly Retreats thrice in 2013, hoping to replicate same this year. One of our hosts, Bro Nyesom Nyeche Woluchor, has graciously converted his business place into mini-chapel, to ensure that the Home- Cell fellowship in his house is permanent.

CHALLENGES

The centres in New GRA/Stadium Road Zone have virtually been dormant from onset and efforts by the co-ordinator, Lady Dorothy Okwu-Worlu to revive them didn’t yield any result.
The Centres in the cathedral compound which should have been vibrant and a shinning example to others have always recorded very low turn-out.
Despite the sustained awareness given to the home-cell fellowship, most members of the church have continued to shun the programme , even when centres are located within their vicinity.
Deep-seated enmity, community/family meetings, social club engagements are the major reasons given by many cathedralists for not being part of the house fellowship.
Efforts at securing a place around the Atakos of Oroabali have proved abortive. We’ve been refused usage of the hall in Chief Atako’s compound inspite of our passionate pleas.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Announcements relating to house fellowship be intensified and extended to other church programmes, Units/Group meetings.
The policy of attaching welfare issues or social outings in the church to membership of the home-cell fellowship should be fully implemented without further delay.
The church authorities should, once in a while, monitor and ascertain those leaders in the church who deliberately shun house fellowship. Sanctions should start from them.
All those residing in the compound should be compelled to be part of this fellowship or be sanctioned in some way.
A particular Sunday should be set aside to showcase house fellowship. Outstanding zones/centres to be rewarded while the service features Bible recitations/quiz, special renditions, thanksgiving, drama etc, all done in a form of competition.

APPRECIATION
We wish commend the Archdeacon, the Ven. John C. Adubasim, for his untiring efforts towards entrenching the home-cell fellowship in our worship system. We also appreciate all our host families for tolerating us, especially, some of our fathers who, out of enthusiasm and love for God, give us unequalled support by their regular presence in our meetings. These men of God include Chief (Engr)Eugene Chuku, Sir G.H.Omodu, Mr. Nelson Okoli, Rev.Chamberlain Oguzo.

CONCLUSION
We are believing God for a more fruitful year in our walk with Him in 2014. All the lapses we have so far identified will be tackled while also praying that God in His infinite mercies will touch hearts of our brethren who continuously turn their back on the house fellowship. Finally, many thanks to our out-gone chaplain, the Rev. Joseph S.B.Lebara for his support.

May the good Lord us all in JESUS Name, Amen

THE REPORT OF ST. PAUL’S CATHEDRAL CHOIR 2013.
"Praise the Lord, O my soul. I will praise the Lord all my life. I will sing praises to my God as long as I live" (Psalm 146:1).

INTRODUCTION
St. Paul’s Cathedral Choir, the largest traditional church choir in the Niger Delta province, a vibrant and growing choir with over 100 registered members, 60% of which are female while 40% are male, is an integral part of the church which maintains strong choral tradition in both the common worship (divine service) and in the Eucharistic service (Holy Communion Service). This the choir does in leading the congregation in both 7am and 10am matins every Sunday; wedding, burial and other ceremonial services are not left out. Though, predominantly youths, membership cuts across all ages.

MEANS OF GRACE
The choir organized a 30-minutes praise and worship session and exhortation prior to choir practice proper each time it held. Retreats were also held. These programmes were designed to revive the dwindling spiritual lives of choristers who as humans often stray perversely.

EVENT
The call of this Ministry is singing. The choir made concerted efforts to sustain the tradition singing of varieties of music from traditional Anglican Plain song, classical anthems, hymns all the way through to native air, canticles, in the year under review.

The task of performing a good music demands hard work and commitment. This lends credence to a 3 day choir practice held every week throughout the year, except in some days when the practice day clashed with important church functions.

On October 2013, the choir in conjunction with the church organized service of hymns during which varieties of hymns were joyfully and harmoniously rendered. The service indeed was spiritually uplifting. The choral groups, drawn from the length and breadth of Port Harcourt included among others, Exquisite Choir of Port Harcourt, Port Harcourt City Choral and St. Banabas Choir Elekahia.

In the same vein, on December 22, 2013 the choir organized a Christmas Cantata in which THE NATIVITY OF CHRIST was performed. The programme was indeed awesome one.

The choir has concluded arrangement with a studio in Ahoada for production of an album. Be that as it may, our out gone Chaplain, Rev. Joseph Lebara, proposed a studio in Enugu for a better quality production.

DENOTIONS
A member having been moved by the performance of the choir on the event of service of hymns, made a benevolent donation of One Million Naira (N1,000,000.00) to the choir to mitigate the expenses made on transportation and other logistics in the cost of their practice and other church functions.

CHALLENGES
As a cathedral in the heart of a city as large as Port Harcourt Metropolis, the choir needed to be upgraded from the use of sulfer to the use of staff notation in conformity to the latest global trend spiced with innovative inclusions.

Suffice it to say that sons play an enormous role in the spiritual uplift of people. Since the choir leads in singing. This enormous responsibility cannot be discharged to the fullest if the encumbrances facing the choir are not removed so as to provide a soft landing for the choir. It is on this premise that the choir beckons on the church authorities to make provision for ample spaces to conveniently accommodate the pews so far provided for the choir.

In a related development adequate number of microphones of be installed to enhance good audio quality for full production of performance of the choir.

CONCLUSION
The act of singing and singing quality music to a superlative degree is indeed painstaking and time demanding. While we applaud the church authorities for their unflinching support towards the uplift of the choir to this height, we now call for concerted effort from all and Sundry towards the attainment of the aforementioned lofty in order that the cathedral choir be given the impetus to sing down the Glory of the Almighty God

Finally we acknowledge the invaluable contributions of our dear amiable, indefatigable, Archdeacon, Ven. John Abubasim for the conservation of the traditional virtues of the church and choir they are known for. Also worthy of commendation is our able Chaplain (though now on transfer) Rev. Joseph Lebara for his indelible words of encouragement and counseling. And also not forgetting our ingenious and pragmatic music director, Sir Patrick Ase for his unflinching effort in maintaining a high standard choir which sing praises in mighty harmony ranging out in a word of simple majesty.

May God’s abundant blessings continue to rest upon us all. And as we proclaim the Gospel through good music may he grant us exquisite delight in the abundance of peace. Amen.

SECURITY COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE CATHEDRAL STANDING COMMITTEE (CSC)

The Cathedral Security Committee has made so many far reaching recommendations to the Cathedral Standing Committee (CSC), many of which has not been implemented, the authority attributes the non-implementation to lack of funds.

We hereby reproduce some of the recommendations:

1) ID CARDS

I.D Card for all church residence.

The church authorities should do away with all Cathedral Compound squatters.
3) OVERGROWN BUSHES
All overgrown bushes within the church fences be cut at-least once in a month.
4) MINI SECURITY HOUSE
A Mini Security House should be built within the Archdeacons residential area.
5) EXTRA-SECURITY MEN

The data of all Cathedral residence should be compiled in such a way that each household is listed.

The D/Line end of the church fence is too low and needs to be raised.

10) SECURITY BARRIERS
Construction of security barricade at the main entrance to the church.

Having observed the security implications, the hanging around of drivers has constituted recently, we hereby recommend, the provision of a temporary stand for all the drivers.

18) CATHEDRAL BASEMENT CHAPEL
Non completion of work at the Cathedral basement chapel (now royal youths chapel) i.e. the windows, Doors and the protectors, serves as easy access to the church auditorium for thieves.

19) THE CHURCH AUDITORIUM DOOR LOCK
There is need for the reinforcement of the main auditorium door lock.
Among other recommendations.

APPEAL

The Security Committee wish to appeal to all Cathedralist and their visitors to always adhere strictly and obey all security instructions and also co-operate with our security personnel. Security is a very important matter and is everybody’s business, we all have a role to play.

It was awesome in the presence of God. There were healing, deliverance, reconciliations and lots of miracles all through the seven nights which was concluded with a praise and suya night.

REPORT ON FAITH CLINIC BETWEEN FEBRUARY 2013 – FEBRUARY 2014

We give God all the glory for the growth of the Faith Clinic. A Clinic that started in 2010 with an attendance of 8 – 15 persons has grown so large that today, we can make bold to say that we have a membership of over 200 persons. We also generate income through (offering & seed faith) of between =N=100,000 and =N=150,000 per month.

FOUNDATION BIBLE CLASS REPORT

We give God all the glory for the Foundation class. We also thank Him for our Venerable John Adubasim who bought this vision and also for our Canon Kingsley Ogbonda who has been working tirelessly to sustain the vision.

The Foundation class which started in August 2012 is aimed at leading worshippers to Christ, giving believers the foundation of Christian faith, equipping the saints and empowering the saint. To this effect, a booklet and a manual was put together which comprises various lessons and evaluation questions both for the teachers and students. The entire scheme of work for the foundation class as contained in the manual is divided into three large parts:

Part 1: Basis / foundation of discipleship

Part 2: School of discipleship

Part 3: Introduction to the school of ministry.

Part 1 is made up of 6 lessons namely:
Who is God, the Father?
Who is Jesus Christ?
Who is the Holy Spirit?
Who is the Church
Resurrection

Part 2 is made up of 7 lessons namely:
Personal devotion
Giving: an act of worship
Christian consecration
Biblical fasting
Christian witnessing
Temptation and Trial
Spiritual warfare

Part 3 is made up of 4 lessons namely:
Understanding your calling (Spiritual gifts)
Character (Fruit of the spirit)
Team work
Competency

GRADUATION:

A total of 37 persons including lay readers, 1 Evangelist and 1 Sunday School Teacher graduated on 10th November 2013. We are looking forward to the graduation of the second batch.

WORKFORCE:

The foundation class kick started with a few lay readers and evangelists but, to the glory of God, we have raised more teachers which have increased the work strength to about 30 teachers.

OBSERVATIONS:
All the graduands of the foundation class who are new members have been engaged in various units of their calling and interest i.e. through the foundation class the Lord has raised willing labourers for His church.
All graduands of the class serve with passion in their various units
Graduands and students of the foundation class make up atleast 40% of the attendance of our church weekly programmes.

RECOMMENDAITONS:
We therefore recommend that, the church should take seriously the policy that new members must pass through the foundation class before being registered with the church and before belonging to any unit of the church.
Old members of the church, especially all church workers should be encouraged to pass through the foundation class because, the teachings at the foundation class will inspire them to serve God with passion in their respective unit thereby, solving the problem of pushing people to serve God.

CONCLUSION:

This report will not be complete without appreciating all the teachers who have been working tirelessly to raise disciples for Christ and equip the saints of Christ. May the good Lord bless them out of his good treasure in Jesus name, Amen!

We will not also fail to thank the church leadership for the privilege to in this capacity because, it pays to serve Jesus.

It is also our expectation and prayer that this foundation class will b eincluded in the church policy so that it will not at any time be affected by a change of administration because the foundation class has come to stay.

Co-ordinator Secretary

REPORT FROM THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE

The education committee was appointed and inaugurated in April 2012 and re-appointed in April 2013 with a mandate to recruit candidates for computer training, draw up a blue print for the Nursery School and any other educational matters the committee may deem fit for the Cathedral.

1. COMPUTER TRAINING.

The committee has successfully graduated four batches of ICT students in two years (2012 – 2013).

2. NURSERY SCHOOL.

The committee had reported on the inadequacy of the present MDG – Nursery School building and its unsuitability to the above project. However, the Committee recommended its use for extra mural and Adult education.

3. EXTRA-MURAL / PART - TIME PROGRAMME.

The Committee received approval at the penultimate meeting of the CSC this year for its proposal to run this programme in order to prepare students for JAMB/UTME, WAEC/NECO, Professional examinations (ICAN, NIM, CIPM, etc) and Adult education. The latter has been identified by the Rebisi Female Teachers Association (RFTA) as one of their core programmes.

4. YOUTH EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME.

The Committee is of the opinion that the church should go beyond computer training and classroom learning to empowering our youth with skills to face current life challenges. This programme comprises employability training and entrepreneurship training in cell phone repairs, computer repairs, sewing, decoration, catering services, landscaping/horticulture among others.

5. ICT CENTER / LIBRARY.

The ICT Center has been underutilized hence the need to lease it so that this facility can be optimally utilized. The center will become more functional as a training center, business center and a cybercafé. It should be able to serve the Cathedral and others. It is expected to be self-sustained as well as generate some income for evangelical work in the church.
Presently, a manager has been recommended to the CSC for approval.
The library under this new arrangement will create awareness and encourage reading by our children. From time to time the church will add books donated by its congregation.
